About the Cathedral

In collaboration with their sister-company, atxGALs (Austin's largest all-women local visual artist collective), The Cathedral was created to provide an inspiring space to work and gather. The building is a 1930's refurbished church.

FAQs

  • We will not be reserving a hotel block or transportation to and from the venue.

The Cathedral is centrally located—just 8 minutes from downtown Austin. If you would like hotel or Airbnb recommendations, please email us at ava.andrew.wedding@gmail.com. We’d be happy to help!

  • Yes! Here are some of our go-to spots:

    Barbecue

    • Terry Black’s: A classic spot where we often take out-of-towners to get barbecue for the first time.

    • InterStellar BBQ: This is Andrew's favorite barbecue spot in Austin and they recently won a Michelin star.

    • Micklethwait Barbecue: Just down the street from Andrew and Ava’s house, it never disappoints.

    Mexican

    • Veracruz All Natural: Our favorite breakfast taco spot. Get the migas.

    • Nixta Taqueria: Modern Mexican—they make their own masa and right next door is a Mexican bakery, Comadre Panadería, that we also love.

    • Fonda San Miguel: An Austin institution known for interior Mexican cuisine.

    • Matt’s El Rancho: Another Austin institution known for classic Tex-Mex.

    Other

    • Intero: Modern Italian and a staple of ours to take our parents.

    • Uchi: A celebrated sushi restaurant with an amazing happy hour deal.

    • Ramen Tatsuya / Tiki Tatsuya: Tatsuya has an empire of restaurants in Austin with ramen being the first. Their location on South Lamar also has a tiki-themed spin-off bar.

    • Bouldin Creek Café: Vegetarian, quirky Austin charm. Ava likes to go here for brunch.

  • We sure do!

    Music

    • Ginny’s Little Longhorn Saloon: A tiny dive with live country music that's famous for its Sunday chicken-shit bingo. We used to live down the street from Ginny's and take visitors there all the time.

    • Elephant Room: An underground jazz club with nightly live performances. If you want to go, be sure to get there early because it's a small space and they do fill up.

    • Equipment Room: Not live music, but still shows off Austin's love for music all the same. They have a DJ who curates vinyl records for the evening. This is one of Andrew and Ava’s favorite bars in Austin.

    Art

    • James Turrell’s Skyspace: A serene light installation with reservations for sunset. It is truly unique. A bit of a commitment—the light show lasts through sunset and the installation is on the rooftop of a random building on UT's campus which is a bit tricky to find.

    • Ellsworth Kelly’s Chapel: At the Blanton Museum of Art off of UT's campus.

    • Laguna Gloria: A lakeside villa and sculpture park.

    Nature

    • Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail: This is a 10 mile trail that loops the river downtown. Ava often runs this trail—it's a great way to view the city.

    • Barton Springs Pool: This is one of our go-to hang out spots. It’s a spring-fed swimming hole that is open year-round.

  • Historically, the weather in Austin, Texas on March 28th tends to have average highs around 76°F and lows near 53°F.

  • We wanted to have both an intimate, formal gathering with our families and a casual, fun dance party with our friends—so we decided to do both! On October 25, 2025, we hosted a small wedding with our immediate family in Boulder, Colorado. Now, we’re looking forward to continuing the celebration in Austin with our friends.
